READ THE FINE PRINT: Credit card companies call this offer a “secondary insurance” plan—secondary is the key word. The promised insurance kicks in only when your primary insurance coverage has exhausted all its policy limits. If you lack primary insurance, the secondary is discounted.

Vacation Car Travel—If you Drink, Don’t Drive

You may be surprised how quickly the body’s reaction time changes after just one drink (1.25 oz shot of 80-proof liquor, a 5 oz glass of wine, or a 12 oz bottle of beer):
--0.02 Reaction time begins to slow, visual function declines, and the first signs of poor judgment appear.
--0.05 Driving skills deteriorate considerably, muscles are relaxed, and coordination is decreased.
--0.08 Judgment, inhibition, coordination, balance, vision, hearing, and speech are affected. Your chances of being involved in a collision are greatly increased.
--0.10 All mental and physical skills are affected. Performing any task with your hands or feet is difficult. Your chances of being involved in a collision dramatically increase.

Bring a list of phone numbers for airlines, hotels, and include your travel agent’s number, etc., and carry with you. Good idea to program them in your cell phone with a code word (TRIP): Trip AIR, Trip HOTL, Trip AGENT. When you use a code word (“trip”), all trip-related numbers will list together. Good idea to do both suggestions in case the cell phone’s battery doesn’t get charged.
